PTC – Preliminary Theological Certificate

PTC stands for Preliminary Theological Certificate. It is a course originally produced by Moore

Theological College, Sydney, Australia, that has been translated in many different languages to train church leaders around the world. PTC is taught in the Khmer language and gives students who have already completed high school (Grade 12) the opportunity to undertake serious theological study, especially those who cannot leave, or do not wish to leave their full-time employment.

The course is offered by PPBS at a cost that students do not need to find a sponsor (25

USD/subject). Yet, it is demanding enough to provide a challenge for local university graduates and hopefully inspire some of them to continue in theological studies at a higher level if and when the opportunity arises.

The first subject is “Biblical Theology 1”. This subject focuses upon God’s unfolding revelation in

the Old and New Testaments and God’s work in this world through the Lord Jesus Christ.

The students gather to study a subject once a week in the evening, as most have daytime

employment. Half-way through each class, they stop for a break, and then one of them shares their testimony or a point for prayer to the group before the teaching recommences. At the end of each of the ten lessons, there is a short-answer quiz, as well as a written assignment, and a final written examination.

Each subject comes with a text book in Khmer. Other subjects offered includes:

  • Old Testament (Pentateuch)
  • New Testament (the gospels focusing on Mark)
  • Promise to Fulfilment: Biblical Theology 2 (biblical theology and interpretation)
  • Romans
  • Ephesians
  • Doctrine (The doctrine of Scripture and doctrine of God).

Upon the successful completion of six subjects, the students will qualify for a PPBS PTC

Certificate.
